Film Festival Spotlight: 2016 Fan Favorite Winner Thermo Fisher Scientific
"Give Us Hope" Features Thermo Fisher Scientific's STEM Education Program in Action
Each year, the video that receives the highest number of public votes is named the Fan Favorite winner. In 2016, the Fan Favorite went to Thermo Fisher Scientific for its video titled, "Give Us Hope." The video featured Thermo Fisher Scientific's STEM-Credible Kids Safety Program, part of its STEM Education Program.
The video shows 60 Boston-area Thermo Fisher Scientific employees assembling 300 “STEM-credible” lab safety kits which the company donated to students at the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School. The kits, which included splash guard goggles, splash guard apron, gloves, and a lab notebook with a personalized message written by Thermo Fisher Scientific employees, were designed to help the students experience science safely. Thermo Fisher Scientific employees then visited the school to personally deliver the kits and guide students through a lesson in extracting DNA from strawberries.
To show their appreciation, the students from the school’s Voices of Renaissance choir attended Thermo Fisher Scientific's Global Annual Leadership Awards meeting, where they sang and recited poems further inspiring Thermo Fisher Scientific to get involved in STEM outreach activities in their communities across the country.
