First-ever Indigenous Tsou Tribe Science Base Opened in Taiwan, Funded by Amway Hope Maker Charity Foundation

Shinmei Elementary School, one of Amway Hope Maker Charity Foundation’s “2015 Pursue Your Dream” winners, established and opened Tsou Tribe Science Base on April 14 in Chiayi County, Taiwan. Tsou Tribe Science Base is the first empowerment-based science learning program for indigenous students in Taiwan, dedicated to inspiring them to science knowledge and further exploring inexhaustible Tsou indigenous wisdom. More than 20 Amway volunteers participated in this event and provided refreshments to show their kind supports.

Shinmei village is located at Alishan Township, the mountainous rural area of Chiayi County, where educational attainments, income levels and job skills are more limited. Faced with the educational and societal barriers, the school has still kept dedicating itself to bridge science education gap and won numerous awards. Amway Hope Maker Charity Foundation recognized its efforts and awarded the first place of 2015 Pursue Your Dream program with NT$1.5 million (US$50K) grant. With the new science base launched, they will develop summer and winter science camps led by the seeded students for the remote kids to promote Tsou Tribe’s science wisdoms.

Magistrate of Chiayi County, Helen Chang and CEO of Amway Hope Maker Charity Foundation, Nadia Ding, attended the opening ceremony and delivered their encouragements to the students. “The miracles of our dreams lie beneath our foot soles; it takes sweat, persistence and determination in each and every tiny step as we journey to the stars.” said Nadia Ding. “Most importantly, the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
