Five Elementary School Finalists Selected from Among 5,000 Nationwide Entries in the Sodexo Future Chefs

The Sodexo Future Chefs program, which is in its fourth year as a national event, creates positive behavioral changes in students by enabling them to get actively involved in good nutrition. More than 2,000 students, representing approximately 1,000 Sodexo-served schools in 30 states, were selected to participate in 110 local events.
Throughout this week, we have been highlighting each of these five finalists. The voting period for this event ends on Sunday, May 4th at midnight.
The five Sodexo Future Chefs: Healthy Sandwich Challenge national finalists are:
Matthew Aguilar
Mathew is from Lawton Public Schools in Lawton, Oklahoma. His recipe is the “Crabby Sandwich” Matthew says that what he likes most about his recipe is that a makes him think of Sebastian from Disney’s, The Little Mermaid. You can view his recipe video here.
Nicole Garrity
Nicole hails from the Windsor Locks Public Schools in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Her recipe is the “Shamrock Sandwich” In describing her inspiration for this sandwich Nicole says that between travel soccer and dance, she is always very active and always looking for something that tastes good and is good for you. Noeli Hernandez
Noeili comes from the Liberty Hill Independent School District in Liberty Hill, Texas. Her recipe is the “Gobble Gobbler.” Noeli came up with this recipe because as she put it “it’s her favorite sandwich without bread because bread has a bunch of carbs and calories.” View her recipe video here.
Meredith Moore
Meredith comes from the Milton-Freewater Unified School District in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Her recipe is the “Toasted Cheese Dippers with Mango Salsa.” When determining what she wanted to create for this competition, Meredith said she wanted to make something that was kid appealing, but that adults would also love and find nutritious. MaryJane Ware
MaryJane is from the Troy School District in Troy, Michigan. Her recipe is the “The Cucumber Boat Sandwich.” When asked why she picked this recipe, MaryJane stated “I picked the Cucumber Boat Sandwich because it’s easy and fun to make.” She also went on to discuss the fact that she has been helping her mom make this sandwich since she was old enough to peel the cucumber.
