From replacing non-recyclable packing peanuts with biodegradable alternatives to downsizing packaging material, engineers at MilliporeSigma, the U.S. and Canada Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, are improving the sustainability of packaging without compromising safety and quality. And that’s important with a portfolio of over 300,000 products and approximately 50,000 shipments dispatched daily.

Each sustainable packaging project aligns with the organization’s SMASH Packaging plan, which works toward more sustainable packaging for new and existing products. So far, these projects combined avoid more than 400 metric tons of packaging materials annually.
