Food Systems Featured at October Social Capital Markets Conference
Connecting funders with opportunities in sustainable agriculture and seafood
(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) San Francisco, CA – September 27, 2010 – This October, the Social Capital Markets (SOCAP) conference will feature a Food Systems Track dedicated to funding opportunities in sustainable agriculture and sustainable seafood.
The conference takes place Monday, October 4th to Wednesday, October 6th in San Francisco.
Each year, over 1100 leading social innovators from over 30 countries converge at SOCAP to define the social enterprise landscape and allow funders and entrepreneurs to network.
Melanie Cheng, founder of Om Organics and FarmsReach, has curated the track to focus on the most promising opportunities and critical areas to make an impact in the short-term: systemic solutions for healthy ecosystems, regional foods, fair international trade, biotechnology, IT, and a strategy session just for funders.
“More and more foundations and investors want to help reform our food system, but in such a vast, complex industry, it’s hard to know where you can make a difference, or even where to start,” Cheng said. “The Food Systems track covers some hot levers for change, where capital is needed right now, and how funders can learn to identify partners and opportunities once the conference is over.”
Food Systems Track Sessions:
Lay of the Land: Systemic Problems, Creative Solutions
Bare Essentials: Healthy EcoSystems & EcoSystem Services
Logistics is Sexy: Regional Food Systems & Infrastructure
Going Global: Building Fair Trade Markets
Ag Tech: Bio-Solutions, Precision Agriculture, Traceability & Marketplaces
Creative Financing: Lessons Learned & Strategy Session
There are 28 industry leaders speaking in the Food Systems track, who are able to travel to the conference thanks to Track Partners like RSF Social Finance and Watershed Capital.
There will be a reception for food industry speakers and attendees on Monday, October 4th from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
Food issues will also be covered in the Innovations in International Development Track, another new area in this year’s conference. Other tracks are: Impact Investing, Tactical Philanthropy, Mobile Technology, New Money, and Metrics & Systems Thinking.
