Free Oct. 11 Electronics Recycling in Garden State

LAFAYETTE, N.J., Oct. 10, 2014 /3BL Media/ – The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA), one of the leading recycling centers in the State of New Jersey, is the setting for LG Electronics USA, Vintage Tech Recyclers and Sussex County to offer local residents a free solution for responsibly recycling outdated, unused and older electronics products, including TVs, monitors, cell phones and more.

Please join us from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Sussex County MUA, 2400 34. W Route 94, Lafayette, to drop off your obsolete electronics. Residents are encouraged to stay in their vehicles as Vintage Tech Recyclers personnel and volunteers will assist in unloading material. 

To help assure responsible recycling for consumers, the LG Electronics Recycling Program works with e-Stewards-certified recyclers, like Vintage Tech Recyclers, which provides IT asset management, responsible recycling solutions, and hard drive security in their facilities nationally.

Vintage Tech Recyclers, an e-Stewards, R2, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certified electronics recycling company, ensures that all electronics are properly handled and recycled responsibly with all hard drives are protected using NIST 800-88 compliant software wiping.

By recycling old electronic products, useful materials such as glass, plastic and metal can be re-used in the manufacture of other products, explained LG Electronics USA Vice President John I. Taylor. “Recycling electronics minimizes the amount of hazardous waste in the landfills and the extraction of new raw materials from the earth. LG encourages consumers to replace older TVs and computer monitors with new ENERGY STAR certified models to help save energy and money while addressing climate change,” he said.

Items accepted:

TVs, monitors, LCDs, computers, laptops, cell phones, printers, scanners, modems, CD drives, cables, keyboards, mice, VCRs, DVD players, Blu-ray Disc players, camcorders, cameras, game consoles and joysticks, telephones, pagers, answering machines, typewriters, calculators, adding machines, fax machines, copiers, postage meters, vacuum cleaners, toaster ovens and microwaves.

Non-Accepted Items Include:

Light bulbs, mercury-containing devices, alkaline batteries, fluorescents, household chemicals, toys, books and paint.

LG Electronics USA, with headquarters in Northern New Jersey for 27 years, has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the 2014 Gold Tier Award in the EPA’s Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Program. The Gold Tier Award recognizes LG’s significant contributions to the EPA’s SMM Electronics Challenge goals by increasing the amount of used electronics collected for reuse and recycle, sending 100 percent of used electronics collected to certified third-party recyclers like Vintage Tech, and publicly sharing detailed information about its electronic management practices.  

In 2013 alone, LG collected and responsibly recycled 22,559 metric tons of used electronics – equivalent to diverting more than 21,000 metric tons of solid waste from the landfill. Put another way, the positive environmental impact of LG’s 2013 responsible recycling is equal to taking 12,500 passenger cars off the road for a year or saving enough energy to power more than 3,000 homes in Lafayette for a year.

Northern New Jersey residents are encouraged to take advantage of Saturday’s free recycling event to do their part in helping to save the planet. The FREE electronics recycling event will be held from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority, 34. W Route 94 in Lafayette, N.J.
