Freeport-McMoRan Awards $25K Grant to the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center for Women’s Program
Feb. 12, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center in Phoenix, Arizona, to support the group’s women’s empowerment program.
SARRC’s Young Women’s Empowerment Series: Education and Support for Women with Autism Spectrum Disorders, is a new program that focuses on women 18 and older who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
Three 12-week programs are planned for the year. SARRC will coach 30 women through the program this year. Participants learn new skills in weekly workshops, discussions and social groups in addition to one-on-one counseling sessions.
The grant is part of the Freeport-McMoRan foundation’s women’s development grants program, which provides financial support to programs that help women overcome obstacles and achieve personal and professional success as well as safety and independence.
