Freeport-McMoRan’s El Abra Operation in Chile Offers Career Training for Indigenous Youth
November 27, 2018 - Twenty young people from indigenous communities in Antofagasta are being trained in Dry Area Maintenance Operations through a course sponsored by Minera El Abra, a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan.
The two-month course, taught by the Technological University of Chile, covers operations and maintenance in the areas of hydraulic systems, mechanics and forklift operation, with a focus on safety. It also includes 200 hours of practical training. The course is part of a larger initiative by El Abra to help young people develop new skills to increase their employability.
