Freeport-McMoRan’s PT Freeport Indonesia Partnership Fund Supports Education for Indigenous Children

August 23, 2019 - PT Freeport-Indonesia’s Partnership Fund for Community Development (LPMAK) provides educational facilities and support for local community members.

The LPMAK sponsors the cost of boarding school for children of the seven local indigenous tribes near the PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) operations. Over 1000 students are now studying at the following LPMAK sponsored schools:

  • Tsinga Dormitory in Beanekogom, Tsinga
  • Solus Populi Dormitory
  • Bintang Kejora School for Boys and Girls
  • Taruna Papua Dormitory in Timika
  • Amor Dormitory in Semarang, Central Java

In 1996, PTFI established the Freeport Partnership Fund for Community Development through which it has made funding and technical assistance available to support the economic, health, education and social development for the indigenous Papuan community. Through the Partnership Fund, PTFI has committed to provide 1 percent of its annual revenue for the development of the local community.

PTFI’s contributions to the Partnership Fund were approximately $55 million in 2018 and over $790 million since its inception in 1996.
