Gap Inc. Honors UPS With Inaugural Top Stitch Award for Support in Serving Customers, Donates $100K to Good360
ATLANTA, October 7, 2020 /3BL Media/ - Gap Inc. has honored UPS with its inaugural Top Stitch Award, in recognition of outstanding contributions in helping Gap Inc. serve customers while exemplifying shared values and behaviors.
As part of the recognition, Gap Inc. is making a $100,000 donation in honor of UPS to Good360, a global non-profit leader that collaborates with businesses to source highly-needed goods and distribute them through its diverse non-profit network to support people impacted by disasters and other challenging life circumstances.
“When it comes to upholding our customer promise, we’re proud to work with partners who share our vision. Thanks to UPS, we were able to continue providing millions of customers with Gap Inc. products – including 29 million non-medical grade face masks – throughout the pandemic,” said Sonia Syngal, CEO at Gap Inc. “UPS embodies what it means to be a committed and reliable partner and I’m excited to recognize their tireless work with the first Gap Inc. Top Stitch Award.”
As the global pandemic unfurled, UPS was deemed an essential workforce and became an important lifeline for delivering items needed for daily life. UPS’s logistics expertise and ability to create agile transportation and distribution solutions allowed customers, like Gap Inc., to quickly pivot their businesses to meet changing customer needs resulting from the pandemic. UPS’s strong relationship with Gap Inc., and commitment to helping the company serve customers, allowed the two organizations to develop strategies and innovative approaches that brought Gap Inc. products successfully to the homes of its vastly expanding base of ecommerce customers.
“We, at UPS, appreciate this special recognition by Gap Inc. Our UPS heroes deliver for our communities and work hard to support our customers every day,” said UPS CEO Carol Tomé. “Along with our non-profit partner Good360, we’re working together to move our world forward by delivering what matters.”
As Gap Inc.’s primary small parcel partner in the US and Canada since 2016, UPS helps the organization keep customers at the forefront of everything they do. As COVID-19 caused Gap Inc. to temporarily close storefronts, its mid-spring online order volume surged to numbers rivaling the company’s biggest shopping holidays. Gap Inc. converted its more than 1,500 stores into full-time ship-from-store businesses to help with fulfillment, and expanded operations within its six distribution center campuses, and UPS provided solutions every step of the way. UPS helped Gap Inc. navigate an astounding 175% increase in customer package deliveries from distribution centers and store locations. To accommodate the enormous increase in packages, UPS went all out -- including bringing in 28-foot commercial trucks to pick up the massive amounts of orders.
Both Gap Inc. and UPS have been supporters of Good360, and the $100,000 donation from Gap Inc. will be used to support people and communities in need. Good360’s operating approach will enable the organization to convert the $100,000 donation into more than a million dollars in needed goods to support communities. With the long-term effects of the global pandemic still unfolding, this support will help address the vast need for critical relief efforts.
“Good360 is honored to be recognized in this way,” said Matt Connelly, CEO, Good360. “We have worked closely with UPS for a number of years, and The UPS Foundation has been integral in supporting the development of our disaster recovery work in particular. Gap Inc. continues to be an important partner in donating clothing for men, women and children in vulnerable situations. We are especially proud to have partnered with Old Navy earlier this year to distribute nearly $30 million in clothing for COVID-19 relief.”
UPS’s support of Good360 began in 1994. Since that time, UPS and The UPS Foundation have provided Good360 with more than $6 million in funding and in-kind logistics support. In just the first nine months of 2020, UPS has moved 161 truckloads of goods for Good360, in response to 11 disasters and catastrophic events.
In total this year, The UPS Foundation has allocated more than $21 million in COVID-19 relief support across 60 countries, including $15 million to support local organizations. UPS has completed 1,200 relief shipments thus far this year, and committed $7 million for in-kind services to support relief efforts in 2020.
UPS’s support of Gap Inc. is part of the company’s commitment to delivering what matters most. Providing the vital link between dedicated companies like Gap Inc. and the customers they serve is a challenge and an honor we take to heart.
