Gildan Facilities Awash in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention
Education and screening program for the prevention of breast cancer
Gildan’s annual “Pink Tour” in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness held during the month of October is an initiative aimed at raising awareness of breast cancer at Gildan’s facilities in Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean Basin.
The Pink Tour fosters a culture of prevention and inspires breast cancer advocacy, honoring those affected by the disease. Resident Gildan doctors toured the facilities to lead presentations on the importance of prevention through early detection and intervention.
Each of the Company’s manufacturing facilities decorated their spaces and set up breast cancer information boards, held breast self-exam workshops, prevention talks and raffled off mammograms and pap tests, in countries where these services are not provided by the state. Over 12,000 women participated in the workshops, 2000 women participated in breast screenings, and over 200 private mammograms and 330 pap tests were funded by the Company.
Every country brought its own flavour to the Pink Tour. In Honduras, the “Pink Idol” singing competition was held to encourage employees to share inspirational and motivational messages of hope and courage through song. At Gildan’s Cactex facility in Mexico, employees left their pink handprints on a wall as a tangible, permanent reminder that prevention can save lives.
