Giving Comfort Embarks on Journey to Collect Comforting Messages for Cancer Patients
This summer, Giving Comfort, a program of the McKesson Foundation, embarked on a mission to take its Words of Comfort initiative on the road to collect even more encouraging videos, photos and written messages for cancer patients in need.
Launching in July in Detroit and recently wrapping up in Dallas, TX, the Words of Comfort Tour traveled nearly 5,000 miles visiting McKesson employees at regional locations and Distribution Network Partners, the great organizations through which Giving Comfort’s Comfort Kits are distributed to low-income cancer patients across the country. These organizations include hospitals and facilities like Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, VCU Massey Cancer Center in Richmond, VA and Texas Oncology in Wichita Falls, TX, to name a few.
Along the way, Giving Comfort saw firsthand the generosity of people who shared their inspiring messages for patients to let them know they are not alone. Comfy, the Giving Comfort mascot, even joined on the tour, sharing encouragement with the staff, volunteers and patients at each tour stop.
In total, Giving Comfort collected nearly 1900 written messages and more than 100 video messages that will be shared with cancer patients going through treatment.
