Global Impact Launches Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund
ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 28, 2015 /3BL Media/ - In response to the devastation caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal, Global Impact has established the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund to address critical humanitarian needs in the hardest hit regions. This fund supports some of the most respected charities already on-site and providing help.
A powerful, 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated Nepal on Saturday, April 25, killing more than 3,700 people in the worst earthquake there in more than 80 years. The epicenter of the earthquake was just 80 kilometers northwest of the capital, Kathmandu, where buildings, walls and many historic sites like the Dharahara Tower have collapsed. Nearby, Mount Everest experienced a deadly avalanche and landslide. Other impacted areas include Nepal’s second largest city, Pokhara, Northern India, Tibet and Bangladesh.
“Helping people in need during a disaster requires a coordinated and immediate response by charities,” stated Scott Jackson, president and CEO of Global Impact. “We established this fund to support the coordinated response in Nepal and to bring help and hope to those whose lives have been forever impacted by the earthquake.”
Contributions to the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund will support the rescue, relief and rebuilding efforts of Global Impact’s respected and carefully vetted alliance of international relief and development charities. Donations will provide people and communities in need with clean drinking water, food supplies, relief kits, necessary medical attention and safe shelter.
