GM Named a Best Business Neighbor Finalist
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center has named General Motors a finalist in its 2012 Corporate Citizenship Awards for the positive impact its landfill-free program has on people, the community, environment and society.
A jury of past award winners evaluated the entries.
“The judges agreed GM’s application stood out because it went above the norm with corporate environmental initiatives by using innovative ways to recycle and by using recycled material in products and the supply chain,” said Catherine Keller, Chamber BCLC director of communications.
GM operates 102 landfill-free facilities globally that recycle, reuse or convert to energy all waste from daily operations.
“We’re thankful to be among the finalists for the Corporate Citizenship Award for our waste-reduction initiatives, and are always seeking creative ways to improve,” said John Bradburn, GM’s manager of waste reduction. “We’re committed to building initiatives that better our environment and community, such as reusing shipping crates for raised urban garden beds and donating scrap vehicle materials for use in coats for the homeless.”
Other finalists in the Best Business Neighbor category include Dow Chemical,Google, NFL and UPS. A winner will be announced December 6 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
