GM Partners With Qmerit to Create a More Accessible At-Home Charging Solution

General Motors recently announced a partnership with Qmerit, which will enable electric vehicle owners to more easily find and obtain quotes from pre-approved EV charging station installers. The partnership will give Chevrolet EV owners a seamless way to find electricians to install the charging equipment, making charging their EV an easy part of their daily routine.

The ability to charge at home plays heavily into a consumer’s decision to purchase an electric vehicle. This partnership removes perceived barriers to finding a reputable, cost-friendly EV charging station installer. Through Qmerit, EV owners will be able to fill out a simple online survey and be provided with up to three competitive installer quotes. The survey will ensure quotes are precise based on the unique characteristics of the owner’s home.

As the first non-luxe car brand to offer this service, Chevrolet’s partnership with Qmerit will provide Chevrolet Bolt EV and Chevrolet Volt owners with a more accessible at-home charging solution. Since most EV owners can satisfy their daily needs by plugging in at home, it is essential to make at-home charging easier for current and interested customers. Here are a few other facts to know:

• EV owners usually choose either a Level 1 (120V) charger, which offers about four miles per hour of charge, or a Level 2 (240V) charger, which provides up to 25 miles per hour of charge. • The average daily commute is about 40 miles round trip. With an EPA-estimated 238 miles of range on a single at-home charge, a Chevrolet Bolt EV owner can get through the day – perhaps even three or four days – without needing to plug in.
• According to the EPA, the estimated fuel cost for the Chevrolet Bolt EV is around $46 per month. Compared with an average new vehicle of the same size, the EPA estimates the Bolt EV could save an owner about $70 per month in fuel costs. Overnight charging, when utility rates may be at their lowest off-peak price, could mean even greater savings.
• According to HomeAdvisor, the median cost for installing a home charger is around $700, plus installation fees. This cost pays for itself in a little over two years through the money saved per month by not purchasing gasoline.
• State tax and/or utility company incentives may be available to offset the cost of charger installation.
