GM Struts its Sustainability Stuff at Golden Peacock Awards
We’re as proud as a peacock. Yesterday we received the 2015 Golden Peacock Global Award for Sustainability in London.
Ian Allen, manager of regulatory affairs for GM UK and Ireland, accepted the award at the Global Convention on Corporate Governance and Sustainability.
The awards jury chaired by Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, selected GM for its transparency in economic, environmental and social impacts, all fundamental components of stakeholder relations and investment decisions.
“Sustainability at GM is a business approach, one that creates long-term value by seizing social and environmental opportunities in a continuously changing world,” said Allen. “We align sustainability to our purpose and values, and there isn’t an aspect of the business where sustainability doesn’t fit.”
From developing more fuel-efficient vehicles and advanced safety technologies to being the workplace of choice for employees and the neighbor of choice for communities, we make decisions based on how the outcome ultimately translates into value for customers. In doing so, sustainability becomes an integrated business imperative that creates positive benefits.
We call this customer-driven sustainability, and it enables each employee at every level to help build value with the customer as the compass.
The Golden Peacock awards are designed to encourage initiatives that promote sustainable development. The Institute Of Directors launched the Golden Peacock Awards in 1991. The organization selects winners from 1,000 entries received annually from more than 25 countries around the world.
