Price kicks in $300,000 for field for disabled kids
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Home was where David Price’s heart was last week when he announced he was donating $300,000 toward a baseball field designed to accommodate disabled kids at the same park he began his ascent as a player.
“One day of a couple of hours of baseball doesn’t raise a lot of eyebrows for myself or a lot of other people, but for these kids it’s something they look forward to every day of the week leading up till Saturday,” Price told the Nashville Tennessean. “Just to be a part of that and help put one here in our hometown is very special.”
The Feb. 4 event included a groundbreaking ceremony for the future Miracle Field at the McKnight Park grounds on the north side of the city, which is expected to be ready by spring 2017.
Price, who had participated in Miracle League events while playing in Tampa Bay, noted that for the parents and kids the games “made their week.”
The Miracle Field will include lights, scoreboard, covered bleachers and dugouts, a concession stand, bathrooms and a playground with a rubberized surface.
The star left-hander grew up in Murfreesboro and became a star pitcher at Blackman High School and then Vanderbilt before launching his professional career.
