Green Building Expert Keith Amann Named 2021 LEED Fellow
WSP USA vice president for Built Ecology and sustainability strategy leader is recognized for commitment to creating healthier, more sustainable and resilient communities.
NEW YORK, September 30, 2021 /3BL Media/ — Keith Amann, vice president on the Built Ecology team at WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy, was recognized as a 2021 LEED Fellow by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).
USGBC and GBCI, the premier international organizations independently honoring excellence in green building industry performance and practice, announced that Amann was among 21 individuals from around the world honored for mastery of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED. It is the world’s most widely used green building rating system identifying exceptional work in advancing green building practices.
“Throughout his career, Keith has excelled at understanding client needs to help them articulate their sustainability goals and align project teams around a shared vision,” said Herbert Els, WSP senior vice president, director of specialty services for Property and Buildings. “He is a Future Ready™ champion for WSP; an innovator with strong leadership, technical and problem-solving skills who has had a significant influence on the environmental strategies and building practices that are of critical importance to our firm and our clients. I am pleased that USGBC recognizes these traits within Keith’s body of work and rank him among the best and most influential in his field.”
Throughout his 15-year career, Amann’s areas of project expertise include strategic sustainability consulting, integrative project management, energy studies and assessments, cost benefit analysis, energy efficiency incentive programs and financing, and certification coordination across the full range of sustainable and healthy building frameworks. He has worked with new construction and renovation projects, as well as projects with national landmark historic designation.
Amann has successfully managed the LEED certification of more than 14 million square feet of space, including projects such as the LEED Platinum Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia, New York City Hall and many others. One current example of his impact can be found on his work with 14th@Irving, a tech-savvy 240,000-square-foot office building under construction in New York City, where he serves as project manager for WSP to provide multiple integrated consulting services to deliver a smart, healthy and high-performance building. When completed, 14th@Irving will become a center for inclusive training, collaboration, innovation and growth. Amann is part of the team targeting LEED Gold certification for the building.
Amann currently serves on USGBC’s LEED Steering Committee and as chair for USGBC’s LEED Advisory Committee. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in management; and the New Jersey Institute of Technology School of Architecture with a master’s certificate in sustainable design.
WSP has been well represented in the LEED Fellow program since it was established in 2011. Honorees include Jenny Carney, vice president; and Paul Meyer, senior vice president.
LEED Fellows are nominated by their peers and must have demonstrated exceptional impacts with LEED in key mastery elements related to technical knowledge and skill; exemplary leadership; significant contributions to teaching, mentoring; and a history of highly impactful commitment, service and advocacy. The LEED Fellow Evaluation Committee completes an extensive review of the nominees’ portfolio and presents the recommended slate to the GBCI Board of Directors for approval.
The 2021 LEED Fellows will be recognized on Sept. 23 at the annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo.
