GRI and Fundación Once to Develop Disability Reporting Resource Guide
This important collaboration represents a milestone in the improvement of non-financial information, from the point of view of social inclusion and diversity. During this collaboration, Fundación ONCE will combine its vast experience in the field of business and disability with GRI’s extensive experience in the field of sustainability reporting.
The guide, scheduled to be published in the first quarter of 2015 and accompanied by a launch event in Spain, will help companies better understand and communicate the business value of disability. This includes creating inclusive workplaces, as well as taking advantage of the business case of disability for the expansion of new products, services, and environments. Both organizations aim to contribute to advancements in the quality of the diversity and disability-related information that companies provide to stakeholders in their non-financial reports, and will engage with a group of select experts, as well as leading organizations in CSR and disability, during the development of this guide.
“A lot of work has been done over the last years to define the role of businesses vis-à-vis human rights”, says Bastian Buck, Director Reporting Standard at GRI. “The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights is a key milestone in this area. In 2011, GRI updated its guidance for reporting on human rights, in alignment with this new international reference. A logical next step for GRI is to delve deeper into specific human rights which are relevant for businesses. Earlier this year, we collaborated with UNICEF on a publication on sustainability reporting and children’s rights, and now we are pleased to be working together with Fundación ONCE on this guide focused on disability. We hope that businesses will find it useful and utilize it as a key input in the preparation of their sustainability reports.”
