Guest Post: GM Achieves 100 Landfill-Free Facilities

We did it.

General Motors has achieved 100 landfill-free facilities – meaning zero waste from daily operations is sent to landfill.  We have more landfill-free operations than any automaker, and we recycle and reuse more waste than any auto manufacturer. 

Just how much? Last year, we recycled or reused 2.6 million metric tons at our facilities worldwide. That’s equivalent to more than 38 million trash bags — or more than a month’s worth of trash for every resident in New York City.

Our dedicated employees around the world are critical to our success, and they remain at the core of our waste reduction and recycling progress.

We recognize the strength of a company is measured by how well it manages all aspects of business.   Sustainability initiatives – like our landfill-free program – are part of our business goals, and demonstrate our commitment to the environment and community. 

We’re not stopping at the 100 mark. With the support and creativity of our workforce, we’ll be well on our way to meet our new goal of 25 more landfill-free sites by 2020.
