Harnessing the Power of the Sun for a U.S. Army Facility
Designing and constructing a two megawatt solar photovoltaic array for solar electricity generation at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah
ECN Magazine highlighted the 2 megawatt, 24-acre solar photovoltaic array that is being constructed at the Dugway Proving Ground (DPG) site in Dugway, Utah. This new system will allow DPG’s existing electrical grid to produce 4 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year. Tetra Tech and joint venture partner TriEco are serving as the prime contractor for the design and build of the array. DPG is executing this project to optimize efficiency and conserve natural resources through on-site renewable energy generation and to support their objective of meeting renewable energy goals. This is the first of many prospective renewable energy projects to support to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) renewable energy goals.
The TriEco-Tetra Tech joint venture (JV), along with our key electrical subcontractor Hunt Electric, is providing design and construction services to construct the solar array. We are implementing USACE construction quality control management and health and safety management. The construction includes site clearing and grading; installation of pile-driven steel supports for the fixed tilt racking; installation of 7,600 photovoltaic modules; installation of four 500 kilowatt inverters inside an inverter building; installation of electrical transformers; placement of aggregate course roads; and precision programming of advanced software intended to support our client’s requirements for remote access, SCADA operations, and future upgrades.
