Healthier Food Options Now Available at Federal Aviation Administration
Sodexo's leadership in wellness and sustainability support GSA's vision of making measurable improvements to government foodservice operations
(3BL Media) Gaithersburg, MD - March 12, 2012 - Bringing federal workers more healthy food choices at work, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded a 7-year contract to operate the food services at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Washington, D.C. to Maryland-based Sodexo Inc., world leader in Quality of Daily Life solutions. Sodexo began operations at two cafés in January for the 5,000+ federal employees in the FAA's Independence Avenue, SW headquarters.
- Sodexo successfully engages customers to make informed decisions about their food choices by offering healthy menu options that take into consideration factors such as consumer behavior, work schedules, market trends and geography. Updated choices at the FAA include:
- UFood Grill: grilled and steamed and never fried, UFood Grill prepares healthy burgers, un-fries, wraps, salads, paninis and smoothies. The wide variety of menu items include vegetarian, reduced sodium and fat, gluten-free, low-calorie and low-carb options.
- Global Roots: authentic, unique flavors including pan-Asian, Latin, Mediterranean and Indian cuisine at a display cooking station that leverages Sodexo's Your Health, Your Way® menu items. ZeBi Zest Bakery: nutritional meals from sustainable sources, featuring flatbread sandwiches, soups, fresh baked goods, Aspretto coffee and Numi teas.
- AFC Sushi: prepared fresh daily with quality ingredients, AFC sushi is conveniently packaged for customers on a tight schedule and features specialty items such as Edamame salad.
“I am excited to partner with the Sodexo team to enhance the dining experience and to maximize the healthy offering in our federal facilities.” said Sam Ayoub, branch chief - concessions and retail tenant services at the GSA National Capital Region. “Sodexo is providing a cafeteria with modern, updated choices for the staff and visitors of the FAA.”
In addition to supporting wellness and nutrition at the FAA, Sodexo is helping reduce the waste stream from the facility, furthering the objectives of both GSA and Sodexo's Better Tomorrow Plan. By providing a Somat waste pulping and dehydrator system at the FAA facility, Sodexo will reduce landfill waste by an estimated 5 tons in the first year alone.
