Hilton Worldwide Continues Global Week of Service Through 130 Events Around the World
Day two of the Hilton Worldwide Global Week of Service included more than 130 service events around the world including signature events in Memphis, TN; Chicago, IL; Orlando, FL and Watford, England. Many projects were an extension of ongoing community partnerships and previous service projects that Team Members have been involved with in their local communities as part of our efforts to Travel with Purpose and provide continual and lasting local impact. Chicago, Illinois: Hilton Worldwide volunteers, in partnership with Chicago Cares, returned to Dewey Elementary Academy in downtown Chicago to continue work begun in June to revitalize the school's facilities. Work included painting several classrooms, the Child & Parent Center and the 3rd floor gymnasium as well as building indoor benches and bookshelves. Additionally, Team Members presented the principal of the school with three new HP Laser Jet Pro 400 color printers and more than 300 copies of Be Hospitable, a book about kindness and hospitality.
Watford, England: After serving in McLean, VA on Monday, Christopher J. Nassetta, president & chief executive officer, Hilton Worldwide, joined Simon Vincent, president, Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Team Members from the Watford Regional office for a day of service on Tuesday. The team of more than 100 volunteers spent the day transforming the play rooms and garden area at the Watford Mencap Children’s Centre, a facility that provides support for local families and children with learning disabilities. Simultaneously, another team worked on-site at one of Watford Mencap’s residential homes, transforming the home's community garden.
Orlando, Florida: More than 125 Team Members from Hilton Grand Vacations worked alongside Hands On Orlando at the William R. Just Center for Drug-Free Living in Orlando where they completed nine projects designed to enhance the Center’s ability to provide an inviting, comfortable and healing environment for its clients and their families. Projects included planting a Victory Garden, creating a central recreation area, assembling play and fitness equipment, building benches, painting living areas, providing housekeeping services, creating activity kits and even tutoring clients in residence.
Memphis, Tennessee: Over the past week, Team Members from the Hilton Worldwide Operations Center in Memphis have been working alongside Volunteer Mid-South to serve Alpha Omega Veterans Services to construct an outdoor community gathering space. This work – and other projects throughout the day, including renovation work at the transitional housing facility, job readiness training, and campus beatification work – culminated in a dedication ceremony of the outdoor pavilion with Team Members and veterans. Executives from Hilton Worldwide brands andCommercial Services Team hosted and served lunch to the veterans at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Memphis Downtown before heading to the dedication service of their revitalized facility and newly established community space. The ceremony opened with vocal performances from students at the Stax Academy of Music.
