Home2 Suites by Hilton Celebrates Brand’s First LEED Certified Hotel

(3BL Media) McLean, VA - July 23, 2012 - Home2 Suites by Hilton along with Cherry Cove Hospitality, LLC celebrated the grand opening of its newest hotel in Lexington Park Patuxent River NAS, Md. with an announcement of a charitable community partnership, as well as a ribbon-cutting dedication and reception.  The Naval Air Station Patuxent River Wounded Warriors Program has been selected as the Your2 Hands local nonprofit partner.

The Home2 Suites Your2 Hands program embodies our corporate commitment to support the people who do what they can with their two hands to make a difference where they call home.  "We are delighted the hotel selected the Naval Air Station Patuxent River Wounded Warriors Program as their Your2 Hands partner,” said Bill Duncan, global head, Home2 Suites by Hilton.  "This partnership will give our Lexington Park team the opportunity to support wounded service members by providing them with space to hold their meetings as well as a room to stay while they are in the area looking for jobs.”  The Your2 Hands initiative connects Home2 Suites hotels with hometown charities to help support local communities and put into action the brand’s commitment to giving back.

Home2 Suites Lexington Park Patuxent River NAS is the brand's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified hotel in the brand's portfolio. The hotel received the second level of LEED accreditation, due in part to the standard Home2 appointments that the brand incorporates to promote sustainability throughout all properties. 

The Lexington Park Patuxent River NAS Home2 Suites also incorporated other features to achieve silver LEED accreditation:

• An energy model projected to save 32 percent in annual energy costs.
• Storm Water controls to absorb rainwater back into the ground, rather than running directly to the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem.
• Underground parking area that will help reduce the impervious footprint of the facility and its Heat Island effect.

The four-story, 100-suite hotel is located at 46058 Valley Drive, Lexington Park, Md., directly across the street from Patuxent River Naval Air Station, the center of excellence for Naval Aviation. The property includes 92 queen studio suites and 8 one-bedroom queen suites. Nearby businesses include Lockheed Martin, Boeing, SAIC and Northrop Grumman.  The hotel is close to the town's restaurants and shops.

To commemorate the grand opening, the property hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony with Cherry Cove Hospitality, LLC and Hilton Worldwide executives.  Guests enjoyed music from a live band, hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and an interactive game of Home2 Bingo.  The hotel remained open for tours throughout the evening.
