Campaign: How2Recycle Label

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, January 8, 2014 /3BL Media/ — The Sustainable Packaging Coalition announced today that ConAgra Foods, Inc. is the newest member of its growing How2Recycle Label program. Consumers will see the How2Recycle Label on many of ConAgra Foods’ Healthy Choice® and PAM® products in the next year.

ConAgra Foods, is the maker  of recognizable consumer brands like Healthy Choice®, Orville Redenbacher’s®, Marie Callender’s®, and PAM®.

The How2Recycle Label Program was developed by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) and a group of external collaborators, which included government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and trade associations, to close the loop on packaging recovery by clearly communicating to consumers how to recycle a package.

“In our work, we found that many consumers are confused about what they can and cannot recycle, especially as new packaging materials are used and community recycling standards change,” said GreenBlue Senior Project Manager Anne Bedarf. “The How2Recycle Label helps clear up this confusion by clearly communicating how and where certain materials should be recycled.”

Communities increasingly accept empty aerosol cans and plastics like those used in yogurt containers and aerosol caps. On-package instructions for Healthy Choice® and PAM® products will direct consumers to the How2Recycle website to check their local recycling options for these materials.

“We hope the How2Recycle Label program helps to answer more consumers' questions about recycling our products and encourages more of them to participate in recycling,” said Amanda Humes, Packaging Engineer.

ConAgra Foods is a member of the SPC How2Recycle project development team and provided the consumer testing.

About How2Recycle
How2Recycle is a program of GreenBlue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition. The SPC’s goal is to have How2Recycle appear on the majority of consumer goods packaging by 2016, and to give participating companies detailed information regarding the recyclability of their packaging. Any company interested in joining How2Recycle, to include obtaining a fee sponsorship, should visit www.how2recycle.info/how2join and contact Anne Bedarf at anne.bedarf@greenblue.org.

Fee sponsorships are made possible through the support of the Flexible Film Recycling Group (FFRG) of the American Chemistry Council and  sponsorships remain available for companies using How2Recycle for plastic bags, wraps, and films.
