HP Among Top Companies on CDP’s Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013
Hewlett-Packard was named one of the top 12 companies in the CDP Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013, an annual update on greenhouse gas emissions data and climate change strategies at the world’s largest public companies. This index acknowledged HP’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bring transparency to those efforts.
This year, CDP gave HP an “A” performance rating for our performance in implementing climate strategies and reducing emissions. This high rating qualified us for the Global Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI). In addition to performance, we scored 99 out of 100 points in disclosure and were included in the Global Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), which identifies companies that are the most transparent in telling their climate stories.
This is the first time that our scores have qualified us for both Global CDP indexes, reflecting our continued focus on reducing our environmental impact and the steps we have taken to advance our sustainability efforts. These include:
- With the release of our 12th Global Citizenship Report in May 2013, we became the first major IT company to publish and verify its complete carbon footprint.
- We set a goal of reducing our operation’s total carbon emissions by 20 percent by 2020, building on our previously-achieved goal of a 20-percent carbon reduction—met two years early in 2011.
- We are focused on developing products and solutions that are significantly more energy efficient. This spring, we commercialized the HP Moonshot server architecture, a game-changing solution that consumes up to 89 percent less energy, uses 80 percent less space, and costs 77 percent less than a traditional server environment.
