HP Releases 2012 Global Citizenship Report
by Gabi Zedlmayer
Continuing on its path to sustainable growth, Hewlett-Packard today released its 2012 Global Citizenship Report. This substantial publication describes the company’s citizenship agenda in governance, environment, and society around the world. The report succeeds in presenting information not only from a corporate macro-perspective but also from the personal observations of individual employees and external stakeholders. At HP, ‘business as usual’ means seeking positive impact socially and environmentally with our corporate and operational activity.
As HP CEO Meg Whitman shares in her video below, HP continues to set the pace in global citizenship. For example, HP is now the first major IT company to report the complete carbon footprint of its supply chain, products, and operations and have had the total reported values of our greenhouse gas emissions reviewed by Ernst & Young for accuracy and completeness.
To help our customers reduce their own footprints, HP worked throughout 2012 – building on the work of previous years – to reduce the environmental impact of our products and solutions, from single desktops to entire data centers. For example, the 2012 report describes the innovative HP Project Moonshot system, an entirely new server category, which is anticipated to use up to 89% less energy than anything else on the market.1
As a part of our commitment to transparency, we demonstrate exceptional supply chain responsibility as the first U.S. IT company to publish a list of the smelters and refiners confirmed to be in our supply chain.
Above and beyond HP’s corporate contributions, HP employees all over the world volunteered their time to contribute to the communities in which they live. I’m proud to say that HP employees doubled the number of volunteer hours they contributed since last year, devoting more than 1.4 million hours to volunteer projects that unite the power of people and technology to improve lives every day.
