IBM Wins "Best Commitment to Education Program" Award from U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation

November 16, 2018 /3BL Media/ - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation recognized IBM with its “Best Commitment to Education Program” award at the 19th Annual Corporate Citizenship Awards. The Chamber Foundation’s “Best Commitment to Education Program” award recognizes IBM’s P-TECH model as a strategic initiative focused on improving educational outcomes for students with demonstrated measurable results.

IBM created Pathways in the Technology Early College High School, or P-TECH, model in 2011 after recognizing that by 2024, the U.S. economy will create 16 million new middle-skill jobs, yet only 43% of the workforce is trained to the middle-skill level. P-TECH is a public-private partnership that integrates high school and community college curricula, along with workplace experiences such as mentorship, site visits and paid internships. Students graduate with a no-cost associate degree in applied science and are first in line with their industry partner.

P-TECH now spans 110 schools across eight U.S. states, Australia, Morocco, and Taiwan, with further growth underway. More than 550 businesses are participating, demonstrating that this model builds the competitive talent pipeline required for 21st Century jobs.
