LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated around the world throughout June. In the US, June has been designated US National Pride Month to commemorate the community’s resistance of police harassment and brutality at the Stonewall Riots. At Illumina, this June also marks the second anniversary of the founding of our iPride employee resource group (ERG).
Here are a few ways we are honoring our LGBTQ+ community all month long:
- Employee giving opportunity to donate to organizations that support the LGBTQ+ community, with a match from the Illumina Corporate Foundation.
- Inspiring speaker session with Taylor Miller, a former Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard and the first transgender member to be allowed to openly transition in the Coast Guard.
- Raising the Progress Flag, which emphasizes inclusion of transgender people and people of color, at our San Diego, Foster City, and Madison sites.
- Sponsoring San Diego Pride’s Virtual Celebration, with a special video message from employees sharing what the 2021 San Diego Pride theme, “resilient” means to them.
At Illumina, we believe that by working together toward diversity and inclusion within our workplaces, industries, and the broader business community, we can cultivate meaningful change for our society and a more equitable future for all.
