Ingersoll Rand Leader to Discuss Importance of Decoding Sustainability for C-Suite, at U.S. Chamber of Commerce Forum

Scott Tew, executive director, Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability (CEES) at Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable and efficient environments, will join other sustainability experts at a panel discussion hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Tew will speak on July 23, the opening day of the forum.
Joined by representatives from Smithfield Foods and the GreenBiz Group, he will discuss the importance of translating sustainability inside the C-Suite. Key points of emphasis for panelists include defining and overcoming barriers to addressing sustainability, preferred tactics and tools and ideal leadership qualities.
“The practice of ‘sustainability’ must be understood and accepted at the upper-most levels of an organization before it can successfully be woven throughout the fabric of the company,” said Tew. “Translating sustainability into an easily-understood language is vital for sustainability experts interested in developing strategic business plans for their organizations. Sustainability must be seen as ongoing and part of the culture verses a project or an event to truly drive internal impact, engagement and change.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Corporate Citizenship Center is partnering with VOX Global to offer the day and a half day training program for sustainability professionals.
In September 2014, Ingersoll Rand made public its climate commitment to achieve a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas refrigerant footprint of our products by 2020, and incorporating alternatives with lower global warming potential across the company’s product portfolio by 2030; make a $500 million investment in product-related research and development over the next five years to fund the long-term reduction of GHG emissions; and a 35 percent reduction in greenhouse gas footprint of our own operations by 2020.

W. Scott Tew is the founder of the Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability (CEES) at Ingersoll Rand and is responsible for forward-looking sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing resource demand of products and minimizing resource use within company facilities. In addition, he serves as a featured speaker and thought leader in linking public policy, economic impacts and sustainability. His recent efforts have led to the creation of the EcoWise product portfolio, an award-winning employee engagement program, and other innovative strategies aimed at reducing energy and climate-related impacts. He plays key roles in several important groups including: the EDGE Center for Energy and the Global Environment at Duke University and the U.S. and India Green Building Councils. Tew holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in environmental science and ecology from Livingston University. Prior to this role, Tew led high profile programs to advocate for energy efficiency, green buildings and global greenhouse gas emissions standards and policies.
