Alliance to Save Energy & U.S. DOE: Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 Dialogue

Joining the Alliance to Save Energy (ASE) on its “Energy on the Road” series, Ingersoll Rand and representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Institute for Industrial Productivity and Lockheed Martin spoke with policy makers, academics and business owners on the future of advanced manufacturing and how technology will aid all industries in creating more goods while using less energy.

George Wan, vice president, engineering and technology for Thermo King, used the opportunity to share Ingersoll Rand’s Climate Commitment, detail the company’s energy efficient line of products and services and industry-leading practices in energy productivity using systems-level efficiency principles.

“As in other industries, manufacturing is evolving and adapting to new practices that play a crucial role in better preparing us for the realities of the future,” said Wan. “Ingersoll Rand continues to be on the forefront of such innovations and believes sharing insights and learnings is key to enhancing advanced manufacturing techniques used to create more efficient products today and in the future.”

Leaders from some of the most important corporations in the world – including Ingersoll Rand – came together at the 2015 Global Green Business Summit in Mexico City, Mexico, to exchange ideas about environmental preservation.

Paul Camuti, Ingersoll Rand’s senior vice president of Innovation and chief technology officer, discussed how Ingersoll Rand is creating sustainable solutions that contribute to conservation of the environment. He talked about the recent advances Ingersoll Rand is applying to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in new technology development and how the company is creating more efficient climate control equipment.

The importance of investing in innovations that improve the social and environmental impacts of products has never been greater. Gretchen Digby, director of Global Sustainability Programs, Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability (CEES), recently joined the Conference Board of Canada to discuss the Design for Sustainability (DfS) Certificate Program created in partnership with UL Environment.

Digby explored the importance of embedding sustainability during the product development process and detailed the importance of increasing customer value through providing innovative and relevant sustainability features help our customers accomplish their goals.

“We designed DfS to build employee competency on sustainable design to leverage as they work through the product development process. DfS teaches our employees to think in terms of the different facets of sustainability and leads to a stronger, better-informed decision making process,” said Digby. “We hope sharing our learnings and insights will serve as encouragement to begin thinking how sustainability can be embedded into the product development processes and how it leads to well-informed decisions.”

Joined by leaders from Philips Lighting, the Columbia Green Building Council, C40, Consumers International and Lever, Ingersoll Rand was well-represented as major discussions were held around building efficiency and sustainable development.

W. Scott Tew, executive director, CEES, joined two panel discussions. During the first discussion, Tew focused on key elements for success in implementing energy efficiency in the UN Sustainable Energy for All’s Efficiency Accelerator. For his second session, Tew explored the ways in which sustainable development goals can be achieved and shared Ingersoll Rand’s Climate Commitment with those in attendance.

“With the global population expected to double in the next 12 years, and nearly two-thirds of that population expected to live in urban settings, the importance of creating efficient building policies and regulations has never been more pressing,” said Tew. “Collaboration and partnerships will play vital role in accelerating the uptake of global building efficiency policies and practices as well as role that national and local governments need to play in realizing these efficiencies.”
