Jacksonville Safe Driving Advocate Bill Bade Named Allstate’s Employee Volunteer of the Year
Eighteen Allstate employees honored for volunteerism will receive checks to donate to nonprofits of choice
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., January 20, 2014 /3BLMedia/ – Allstate’s Bill Bade is committed to providing opportunities for teens to realize their full potential. Through The SELF Movement, the nonprofit he founded, Bill reaches thousands of teens with an important message: get involved and be heard. The Service Education Leadership Foundation empowers teens to identify and solve community problems, and emphasizes the importance of community involvement and life-long learning. Selected among more than 250 nominations from around the country, Bade was chosen as Allstate’s Employee Volunteer of the Year.
“I started this organization to make sure each and every teen has the same opportunity I had for success,” said Bill Bade, Allstate’s Employee Volunteer of the Year. “Growing up, my parents made sacrifices to make sure I was involved in a lot of after-school programs, athletics and that I went on to pursue higher education. The Self Movement gives me an outlet to ensure teens in my community have those same important opportunities. ”
As part of The Self Movement, Bade devotes countless hours each week to a project he is personally passionate—safe driving. He and his SELF Movement colleagues created the “Stand Up, Speak Up and Make a Difference” video contest to give teens the ability to reach their peers with messages on the dangers of distracted driving. The contest in Duval County Public Schools attracted 75 submissions that received more than 10,000 public votes. Additionally, hundreds of local residents attended a watch party at a local movie theater for the videos, $5,000 in scholarships was awarded to participants, and $33,000 was raised for distracted driving education.
“Bill has made a tangible difference in the Jacksonville community,” said Greg Guidos, president of Allstate Benefits in Jacksonville, Fla. “He has inspired countless teens to attend college through the scholarship program he helped create, and he’s helped save lives by helping our youth appreciate the dangers of distracted driving. His message empowers the next generation to seize the moment and influence others. “
