(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) LA JOLLA, CA - June 28, 2011 - Kashi Company, the premier natural food and lifestyle company, and Recyclebank®, the company that rewards people for taking everyday green actions with discounts and deals from local and national businesses, today announced they are furthering their partnership with the re-launch of the “Points for Planet” program, featuring seven Kashi cereals. Based on the success of the program last year, Kashi has more than doubled the number of cereals featuring opportunities to earn Recyclebank Points, and developed a new way to reward people for learning about sustainability.
From now through December 31, 2011, people will find the “Recycle for Rewards” promotional callout on the side panel of seven ready-to-eat cereals: Kashi®Autumn Wheat®, Cinnamon Harvest®, Island Vanilla®, and Strawberry Fields® cereals (organic), and Kashi® Honey Sunshine®, Berry Blossoms® and Golden Goodness™ cereals. By entering a code online at www.recyclebank.com/kashipoints as a pledge to recycle their cereal box, people will earn 50 Recyclebank Points per box, redeemable for various rewards from local and national business partners, including coupons for Kashi foods. In addition to the extension of “Points for Planet”, Kashi also teamed up with Recyclebank to develop a unique Learn & Earn video that follows the lifecycle of a cereal box—from the grocery store shelf, to the breakfast table, to the recycling bin, to the recycling center and beyond. The viewer will learn exactly what happens to all the recyclable materials when they leave the curb, and how paperboard makes its way back to the grocery store shelf. By learning about the positive impact recycling has on the environment, and answering a few short questions, people can earn 25 more Recyclebank Points. Visit www.recyclebank.com/kashipoints to watch The Lifecycle of a Cereal Box video. “By expanding our partnership with Recyclebank, we are providing people with an even greater opportunity to understand the importance of recycling paperboard,” said Jeff Johnson, senior nutritionist and natural lifestyle expert at Kashi. “We are excited to raise awareness about the paperboard recycling process. Americans consume about 2.7 billion packages of cereal a year, most of which can be recycled*. I think The Lifecycle of a Cereal Box video is a valuable tool that will help people understand how easy it is for them to recycle cereal and other boxes, and put perspective around the significant impact that recycling and buying products made from recycled materials can have.” “The partnership between Kashi and Recyclebank is an effort to demonstrate that together we can have a real impact on motivating people to recycle,” said Ian Yolles, chief sustainability officer at Recyclebank. “The expanded ‘Points for Planet’ program and the educational tools we are developing are great steps that encourage people to make more sustainable choices.” * Cerealizing America: The Unsweetened Story of American Breakfast Cereal.
