Keep America Beautiful Commits to 3 Million Acts of Green
Extends Partnership with Earth Day Network’s Billion Acts of Green Initiative
STAMFORD, Conn., April 16, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading nonprofit that builds and sustains clean, green, and beautiful communities, today announced its commitment to take 3 million actions over the next two years to help people reduce waste and litter, recycle right, and preserve our nation’s natural beauty.
The commitment, in collaboration with its powerful network of more than 600 community-based Keep America Beautiful affiliates and hundreds of partner organizations, contributes to Earth Day Network’s (EDN) Billion Acts of Green® initiative. Since 2010, EDN has steadily inspired and aggregated acts that reduce carbon emissions by individuals, organizations, businesses and governments to protect the planet. Over 1 billion acts have been registered. EDN aims to reach 2 billion Acts of Green for the upcoming UNFCCC Conference (COP 21) in Paris as evidence that people all over the world are united in calling for a binding global climate agreement.
Keep America Beautiful has contributed nearly 3.3 million Acts of Green since 2012. The further 3 million Acts of Green over the next two years will be amassed through several Keep America Beautiful programs, including planting and cleanup events during the Great American Cleanup; recycling education and collection events for America Recycles Day; and “I Recycle” pledges. The commitments will be announced at the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day event on April 18 in Washington, D.C.
In its 17th year, the Great American Cleanup is the country’s largest community improvement program that benefits more than 20,000 communities and rallies more than 4 million volunteers and participants.
