FISHERS, Ind., February 17, 2022 /3BL Media/ - Land Betterment Corporation (“Land Betterment” or the “Company”), an environmental solutions company fostering positive impact through upcycling former coal mining and industrial sites to create sustainable community development and job creation, announced that ekō Villages of Hope, which provides fully-furnished and operational ekō homes to areas affected by natural disasters and other communities of need, has expanded the corporate donation commitments through its private sponsorship model.

The additional corporate commitments are from Discount Drug Mart, The Tepper Foundation and the John Ulbrich Charitable Trust for a total of $226,000 of funding.

Mark Jensen, Executive Chairman of Land Betterment commented, “These additional commitments not only provide safe homes for displaced members of the community, they also show that the sponsorship model can expand outside of the region effected by disaster. The ekō Villages of Hope are about providing a safe and durable solution for families to begin their journey of rebuilding. We are working with innovative solutions to pair this capital with other providers to get more families in homes quicker, which could include government based funds set aside for housing solutions which could get more homes to the communities faster.”

Ryan Stassinis, Regional Supervisor for Discount Drug Mart stated, "Discount Drug Mart is an employee owned company that has been serving communities throughout Ohio since 1969. Helping make a difference and serving our customers is our purpose. When we saw the devastating tornadoes rip through multiple Kentucky towns, especially during the holiday season, we recognized the immediate need of the communities impacted and responded as urgently as possible by partnering with agencies who were present and on location. In just two weeks, our amazing customers donated $100,000 that went directly towards container homes. Containers are known to easily transition into houses, can be efficiently transported from town to town in vast numbers, can be properly insulated for the cold weather, and are extremely durable to withstand the very worst weather conditions such as tornadoes. We felt container homes were our quickest and safest option that would keep people from leaving to find shelter, security, and safety in other places while they were on the road of short and long term recovery. Discount Drug Mart is proud of and grateful for our loyal customers and our entire Discount Drug Mart family for being able to extend a helpful hand."

Through the established charitable fund in partnership with the Community Foundation of West Kentucky (“CFWK”), individuals and companies can help sponsor ekō homes through donations made to the foundation’s ekō Villages of Hope Fund, found through the link here.  The money raised through the fund directly benefits displaced families in need by providing them with a place to call home.  The sponsorship model is established to provide ekō homes to families for the duration of either six months, twelve months or two years but can be continued thereafter on a single month-by-month, six month, or yearly basis.  A donation of $24,000 provides a fully built, delivered, utility-connected, furnished and rent and home for an entire year ($18,000 for six months or $36,000 for two years), then a $1,000 per month fee thereafter.

It is the goal of ekō to get over 200 homes into West Kentucky for the temporary housing solution that is immediately needed after severe weather and tornadoes struck the region several weeks ago.  Furthermore, after the two year rental period is concluded,  Land Betterment will work to remove the homes, refurbish them, and use them again for housing or offices elsewhere throughout other areas that are in need. Through its ekō housing division, Land Betterment’s goal is provide high-quality homes to communities through a sponsorship model for a term of six months to two years, thereby helping communities rebuild.  Under this model, Land Betterment can substantially reduce the burden of the community, the state and the federal government by incurring the cost to build and deploy ekō homes in a temporary (yearly) model.
