FISHERS, Ind., January 4, 2022 /3BL Media/ - Land Betterment Corporation (“Land Betterment” or the “Company”), an environmental solutions company fostering positive impact through upcycling former coal mining and industrial sites to create sustainable community development and job creation, announced that through the early success of Operation ekō Christmas, which provided four fully-operational ekō homes in four days to a Kentucky community devastated by recent tornados, has set its next goal of offering an additional 18 ekō homes to members of the Dawson Springs, Kentucky School System. Land Betterment is establishing its second ekō Villages of Hope in Dawson Springs, KY to assist with the rebuilding of the Dawson Springs community and goal of helping to get the schools reopened.
Through a newly established charitable fund in conjunction with the Community Foundation of West Kentucky (“CFWK”), individuals and companies can help sponsor ekō homes through donations made to the foundation’s ekō Villages of Hope Fund through the link here. The money raised directly helps putting another displaced family into a place to call home. The sponsorship model is established to provide ekō homes for either six months or 12 months, but can be continued thereafter on a single month-by-month, six month or yearly basis. $24,000 sponsors a fully built, delivered, utility-connected, furnished and rent and utility free home for an entire year ($18,000 for six months), then a $1,000 per month thereafter.
Mark LaVerghetta, Chief Governance Officer of Land Betterment commented, “Our ekō division was established to provide a higher quality, more cost effective and sustainable form of living. What we have seen though our recent disaster relief in western Kentucky is that the ekō housing platform is an amazing solution for areas impacted by natural disasters or other crisis management causes such as domestic violence or rehabilitation villages. What makes them so unique, is our ability to provide a home quickly to communities that desperately need them. A few days after the tornado devastated Dawson Springs, we were fortunate to speak with the Mayor of Dawson Springs, KY about our ability to donate ekō homes and five days later, we had four homes delivered, installed and fully approved to be occupied! What we saw in Dawson Springs, KY was amazing support from across the country in terms of massive outreach of supplies, food, water, clothes and cleanup which were absolutely needed, but housing resources proves to be a much more complex and longer lead-time solutions for these suddenly and severely impacted communities. With the support of the Community Foundation of West Kentucky in the establishment of the ekō Villages of Hope Fund, we provide a real housing solution to communities in need. Furthermore, reliable housing and the reopening of the school system provides the necessary foundation for communities to be productive and rebuild.”
Land Betterment’s goal is to be in a position to provide its efficient housing solution to communities across the country experiencing catastrophic property loss from natural disasters. The Company’s rapid deployment of ekō homes aims to help communities establish a solid foundation to productively heal and rebuild.
Land Betterment with its partner, Container Solutions, Inc, has been building ekō homes to provide a more sustainable and better quality of home versus the traditional trailer or small-home environment. Land Betterment’s ekō housing division is developing community villages that offer residents with sustainable, high-end, cost-effective container-based homes designed to bring a new, safe and more efficient housing option to the Appalachian region’s transitioning economy. The ekō housing solution is powerful across many fronts as exemplified by its Villages of Hope’s disaster and crisis relief. Also, the flexibility and efficiency of the ekō platform allows for the rapid deployment of various dwellings beyond housing such as medical units, support units allowing internet connectivity, community kitchens and mobile offices.
