August 31, 2015 /3BL Media/ - For several years now, Grupo Financiero Banorte has had a strategy for environmental responsibility with the goal of conserving resources and generating environmental awareness among employees, customers and suppliers through various efforts.
In 2014, the company worked ardently to introduce new considerations into Grupo Financiero Banorte’s environmental policy in order to support its commitments on environmental initiatives. It has also created an Identification, Evaluation and Classification of Environmental Impacts Matrix that will allow us to determine the origin and priority of the most relevant environmental aspects on which we should focus our projects and mitigation activities.
As a result, GFNorte now has a restructured environmental policy in alignment with ISO 14000 standards.
Actions carried out in 2014 include:
- In order to become more energy efficient, it has been implemented an integrated power control system (SICE for its initials in Spanish) which replaced existing air conditioners with more efficient ones taking antiquity into consideration; as well as installing control programs for lighting and air conditioning. The savings accumulated since SICE’s inception in 2007 to date amounts to Ps 116.5 million, generating in turn an accumulated savings of 67 million KW/h, with which we avoid the equivalent of 33,493 tons of CO2 emissions.
- More than 121 tons of paper and cardboard were recycled, a 150% increase over 2013 and an estimated economic return of Ps 221,114; at the same time reducing paper consumption.
- Water consumption was reduced by 8.81% from 2013, a total of 545, 361.92 m3.
- An ongoing environmental educational program is provided on the green roof, to sensitize employees on issues of biodiversity, climate change and food safety, among others. This program aims to educate stakeholders on the importance of sustainability. A total of 868 visitors came to visit the green roof by December 2014.
- Grupo Financiero Banorte donated 1,500 hectares in Sonora to Naturalia A.C., to support the Jaguar’s conservation.
- The cost to treat and mitigate emissions in 2014 totaled Ps 21,367,398, while the total investment for prevention and environmental management was only Ps 3, 227,159.
These are just some of the gradual but solid results that are and will be the foundation on which will continue to build a more sustainable company.
This is how Grupo Financiero Banorte will leave a remarkable footprint as a part of its commitment to promoting the care and protection of the environment... because together, we make a stronger Mexico.
