LG Congratulates Student Winners in Science & Environmental Learning Center Contest
Local NJ Students Recognized in ‘Discover Your Green World’ Poster Contest That Encouraged K-8 Students to Contribute Exhibit Ideas for New Science Center
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., July 11, 2013 /3BL Media/ – LG Electronics USA congratulates the nine winners of its ‘Discover Your Green World’ poster contest in which local students were invited to create exhibits for the future LG Science & Environmental Learning Center, a key element of LG Electronics’ future North American headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.
Kindergarten through eighth grade students in Englewood Cliffs, Englewood, Tenafly and Fort Lee schools were encouraged to participate for a chance to win cool LG prizes and to have their exhibit ideas considered by a panel of expert judges for the new LG science center.
LG received more than 100 posters from students enrolled in 11 local schools illustrating an exhibit design that they’d like to see included in the LG Science & Environmental Learning Center. Students were asked to develop an exhibit design that fit with LG’s “Discover Your Green World” theme and explored how consumers and families can help protect the environment at home or in the community through science exploration, discovery and technology.
“LG’s new science and environmental center will be an interactive venue for local students to explore the role that science and technology play in our daily lives and represents an important way for LG to give back to a community that’s been our home for the past 25 years,” said I.D. Kim, the LG Electronics USA vice president overseeing the project. “We’re thrilled to see the students’ and local schools’ excitement about the environmental theme, and we’re looking forward to integrating some of the students’ ideas into this community learning center.”
The expert panel of judges made up of community officials and LG executives evaluated students’ posters based on creativity/ingenuity, effectiveness of message, overall presentation and feasibility of implementation. After evaluating the posters, the judges selected one First Prize from each participating grade and one Grand Prize winner.
First place winners received a suite of LG products including an ENERGY STAR® certified LED Computer Monitor, mouse scanner and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax DVD. In addition to receiving these prizes, the Grand Prize winner was also awarded an ENERGY STAR certified LG Smart TV and home audio system.

Showcasing Sustainable Living
To further strengthen its 25-year partnership with Bergen County, LG Electronics USA is creating the LG Science & Environmental Learning Center where local families, educators and school children will interact with exhibits that showcase future innovations and demonstrate sustainable living. The center, a centerpiece of LG’s new headquarters building, will mirror a similar science center at LG’s headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, where tens of thousands of school children visit annually for hands-on activities that allow them to explore the areas of math, science and technology.
This is part of an overall $300 million project to build its new corporate campus on a 27-acre site at 111 Sylvan Avenue. The project is designed with green in mind and will include planting more than 700 local trees, creating gardens and a walking trail and incorporating design contributions from the community. This office park will accommodate more than 1,200 employees and will create hundreds of new constructions jobs and thousands of direct and indirect jobs as LG expands its workforce in the coming years.
The project’s green design embodies the company’s commitment to sustainability, with energy efficiency, water conservation and reduced carbon emissions. LG aspires to achieve LEED Platinum status, the highest level of environmental certification bestowed by the US Green Building Council.
