LG Electronics Introduces High-Performance, Lightweight Mono X™ Neon Solar Modules
With a high-efficiency output of 300W, the MonoX™ NeoN boasts 18.3 percent module efficiency.
ORLANDO, Sept. 11, 2012 /3BL Media/ - LG Electronics today announced the MonoXTM NeoN premium series solar module; the third-generation of its high-performance, high-efficiency solar energy solutions line-up and among the lightest available on the U.S market. This announcement takes place at the largest business-to-business solar conference in North America, Solar Power International 2012 (SPI; booth 3201), where LG Solar’s U.S. division last year established its technology leadership position with the introduction of the MonoXTM module.
New for 2013, the MonoX NeoN Premium series features the same 60-cell panel design of the MonoX module launched in October 2011, however it boasts a higher maximum high-efficiency output of 300W with 18.3 percent module efficiency. The high-performance module uniquely combines LG’s N-Type cell manufacturing technology into one cutting edge unit. Selective emitter and fine electrode technologies have been added along with LG’s unique anti-reflection coating technology. At 16.8kg, the new solar module is 11.1 percent lighter than previous models, among the lightest on the market.
“While the solar industry has continued exponential growth in 2012, it faces a number of challenges in meeting the needs of its customers. Right now, we are seeing the ongoing challenge of space limitations and installation costs as a barrier to entry for both residential and commercial applications.” said James Lee, Senior Vice President, LG Electronics USA. “At LG, we are meeting this challenge in our research and development laboratories where we are developing high-efficiency solar modules that have the same durability and size as existing modules, but that yield a higher wattage than any other module available on the U.S. market and are significantly easier to install.”
Light and Robust
LG’s MonoXTM line-up of high efficiency modules led the industry in conventional-style solar panels with a 260W output and 60-cell panel design, resulting in a first-class, energy-efficient solar solution. The MonoXTM NeoN Premium series builds on this success adding a 300W module to the line-up that is 18.3 percent efficient and offers consumers and installers greater choice for maximizing system output.
With a weight of just 16.8kg, the new modules are proven to demonstrate outstanding durability against external pressure up to 5400 Pa. The MonoX NeoN is easier to install and meets regulatory requirements for installation by one person opposed to two which will have a direct impact on installation costs. The product features clamp guideline marks on the frame indicating where the mechanical load can be maximized, fixed cable hooks attached on either side of the frame for stability, and 2-way grounding holes on either the rear or the side depending on installation settings. The corner of the module has been re-designed to provide better grips and safety for handling.
“The market is demanding higher efficiency solutions that are easier for installers to use and LG is meeting that demand,” said Lee. “Our new MonoX NeoN module offers installers the ability to take on a greater number of jobs in a shorter period of time. Further, our panels fit into any conventional racking system, eliminating the education installers on various systems. With the growing demand for solar energy, ease of installation will help drive the market.”
Increased Energy Efficiency
With the introduction of the MonoX NeoN module, the Mono X series boasts the highest energy efficiency among all in its class. Conventional monocrystalline products use 240W modules, while LG’s advanced Mono X units operate at 260W and the MonoX NeoN will operate at 280W to 300W. This energy efficiency increase is based on three innovative LG technologies. First, LG’s selective emitter technology improves the solar cell efficiency and simplifies the manufacturing process. Second, fine line electrodes have been created via significant improvements in the screen-printing process. The resulting broader light absorption area generates a greater amount of power. Finally, LG’s own “surface passivation” technology reduces the electrical loss at the solar cell surface.
With LG’s advanced surface treatment technology absorbing more sunlight, the power output of the photo-conversion function is much greater than conventional multicrystalline solar cells. In addition, the night-blue cell color and piano-black frame also adds a stylish finish to the Multi X’s overall elegant design.
Industry-leading Certifications
With an industry leading 25-year guarantee and LG’s commitment to providing comprehensive customer care service, the MonoX NeoN continues to build on the strength of the LG brand across the board. Like the MonoX and MulitX, the product was developed through LG’s solar module test lab, which received full certification from both Underwriters Laboratory and the TÜV, a first in the solar industry. The test lab allowed LG to utilize its own unique cell technology to ensure product quality and durability. The new solar module is rated to withstand frontal and rear pressure of 5,400 Pascal, as well as extreme climate conditions. LG solar panels also were the first in the industry to earn the coveted CarbonFree® Certification label from the Carbon Free Foundation in July 2011.
