LG Electronics Reports 75 Percent Increase in Energy Star® ‘Most Efficient’ Product Sales
Aggressive Promotions Educate Consumers, Retailers; Boosts Acceptance of Energy Efficiency in TVs, Appliances
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Nov. 2, 2012 /3BL Media/ – LG Electronics USA’s sales of products designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as “ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient” have increased significantly in 2012, reflecting growing consumer acceptance of LG’s energy efficient TVs, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners.
More than 750,000 LG products awarded ENERGY STAR Most Efficient 2012 were sold in the United States through September, a 75 percent increase from LG’s 2011 Most Efficient sales of about 400,000 units. According to the EPA, consumer purchases of LG appliances and electronics earning the 2012 ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation will save consumers more than $150 million in utility costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 930 million pounds over the lifetime of these products.
In a presentation at the ENERGY STAR Partners’ Meeting last week, LG Electronics USA’s Public Affairs Vice President John Taylor highlighted aggressive consumer promotions, helping to educate tens of millions of Americans about the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient program.
“The ‘Most Efficient’ designation complements and enhances the ENERGY STAR brand, providing useful differentiation for retailers and consumers alike, as people seek products that deliver energy savings, performance and features that enhance their lives,” Taylor said. From robust sales training and public relations programs to unique advertising initiatives, LG helped raise awareness about the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient program in 2012, he explained.
Now in its second year, this groundbreaking initiative by the EPA recognizes the most energy-efficient products in their categories among those that have earned the ENERGY STAR label. More than 60 LG products – including the most refrigerators and washing machines in the industry – received this coveted recognition for 2012.
Launched at the beginning of the year, the Most Efficient recognition criteria represent approximately the top five percent of products in their respective categories, demonstrating exceptional and cutting-edge efficiency performance. Most Efficient also continues ENERGY STAR’s work to provide the best energy efficiency information for saving energy and money, and protecting the climate.
“Energy efficiency is a core consideration across the board when LG designs new products, from washing machines and refrigerators to HDTVs and air conditioners,” said Taylor. “As a proud 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, LG believes it has an obligation to helping consumers identify the most efficient products. We broke ranks with others in the industry to support this program last year, and we’re proud to lead the way on energy efficient products again in 2012.”
In addition to promoting ENERGY STAR Most Efficient to consumers and dealers, LG Electronics USA has been reaching out to architects, designers and builders. Those 2012 efforts include highlighting LG’s ENERGY STAR Most Efficient duct-free air conditioning systems at the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild 2012 and at the American Institute of Architects national convention and design expo, while expanding its training series on greener, more efficient heating and cooling solutions.
