Robert Rodriguez’s genre busting English language television network, El Rey Network, and the international television and content festival, SeriesFest awarded Ian Verdun on Sunday, June 26, with the first-ever “The El Rey Network Diversity in Storytelling Award” at SeriesFest: Season Two. The inaugural award, honoring the screenplay which best represents the changing face of America, was given to Verdun, a 39-year-old actor from Los Angeles, CA, for his original pilot, Life’s a Drag.
The award was determined by the 2016 SeriesFest Independent TV Pilot Competition jury board and El Rey Network’s Vice President, Audience Strategy and Insights, Dawn Holliday-Mack. Verdun received a $5,000 cash prize.
"We are so pleased to award Verdun with the inaugural 'El Rey Network Diversity in Storytelling Award'," said Mack. “Life’s A Drag presented a diverse cast of realistic, authentic and well-rounded characters spanning race, ethnicity, gender and gender identity which enriched the storyline.”
