Lilly: The Hope Murals Project Takes to the Road

Today's guest blog comes from Jennifer Hill, Senior Director for Lilly Oncology. As part of her role, Jennifer oversees Lilly Oncology On Canvas and The Hope Murals Project.   “Cancer is a scary word that becomes vividly alive when it strikes your family.” This honest depiction of a cancer diagnosis is an excerpt from the narrative accompanying “Compexity,” an oil painting submitted to the 2012 Lilly Oncology On Canvas Art Competition and Exhibition. In partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, the painting was recently transformed into a Hope Mural at the first VeloSano Cleveland cycling event on July 18-19.   VeloSano, which means “swift cure” in Latin, is a movement to raise money to fund cancer research at the Cleveland Clinic. Almost a thousand cyclists joined together to ride for a cure, biking routes ranging from 25 to 230 miles in honor of loved ones, friends, and as survivors themselves. Despite cloudy skies and perpetual rain, more than 650 VeloSano attendees, each touched by cancer in some way, joined together to complete the third Hope Mural.   Read on for more about "Complexity" and the next stop for The Hope Murals Project.
