Stops at Encompass and Literacy Green Bay; Miss Wisconsin Raeanna Johnson to be on hand for the event
Green Bay, Wis., May 4, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Some Green Bay area children can pick out a free book on Monday, May 4 when Bess the Book Bus stops at the Encompass Cornerstone Center from 2:00PM-4:00PM and Literacy Green Bay from 6:00PM-7:30PM, courtesy of CITGO, Astor Park CITGO and U.S. Venture. Miss Wisconsin, Raeanna Johnson, will also be on hand at both locations to read to the children and help distribute books.
Bess the Book Bus is a mobile literacy outreach program founded in 2002 by Jennifer Frances in honor of her grandmother, Bess O'Keefe. Frances now travels the country in the bus, handing out free books to children who have never owned a book of their own to help spread the joy of reading.
“As a dad, I know how important it is to get our kids reading early and often,” said Chris Zabel, account representative for CITGO Marketer U.S. Venture, whose own children volunteer at Literacy Green Bay. “We are proud to work with our partners at CITGO to bring Bess the Book Bus to Green Bay.”
Mike Waldo, owner of Astor Park CITGO added, “Giving back to the Green Bay community is an important part of our business model. We hope Bess the Book Bus’ visit will inspire our young people to read more and to read more often.”
CITGO Petroleum Corporation is one of the main sponsors of Bess the Book Bus as part of its larger Fueling Good initiative, designed to give back to the communities the company serves through local civic and charitable engagement.
