On April 24th, America's Charities is hosting #GivingUnderTheInfluence, a symposium focused on key trends, solutions, and strategies shaping the future of employee engagement and workplace giving. In this series of posts, we’ll introduce you to the panelists who will lead the #GivingUnderTheInfluence Symposium discussion.

Meet Panelist: Marc Johnson

As Vice President of Digital Strategy in the Studio/Online division of APCO Worldwide, Marc Johnson has extensive experience managing highly technical projects and helps clients accomplish their strategic objectives through digital tactics and methods.

At APCO, Mr. Johnson has created winning strategies that drive specific business goals for numerous consumer and association brands including MasterCard, PepsiCo, Microsoft, and eBay. Through use of social media platforms to help these consumer clients with brand positioning and crisis management, Marc has forged client brand equity growth at an accelerated rate.  He has also shown how scalable the use of social media can be through his work with the Government of Malaysia, where he created a social media strategy, in which 400 government officers were trained to use social media tools to engage public constituents.

Prior to joining APCO, Mr. Johnson focused on the areas of health care, education, and advocacy through his role at Mindshare Interactive Campaigns.  There, he used his expertise to manage a number of highly successful projects, including managing the redesign and advancement of digital strategy for Human Rights Campaign (HRC), and creation of specific advocacy tools that won the Webby Award within the advocacy and non-profit category. And through his work with The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), he built an online learning network (NetLC), which used online simulations and document recommendation engines to help state school officers learn best practices for managing and eliminating administrative issues in school districts. The online learning network helped state school officers discuss curriculum implementations and budgeting tactics through elaborate web conferencing and online forums features.

When America’s Charities asked Marc how he thinks the digital culture will transform workplace giving and employee engagement, he replied, “As more innovation is made in the mobile and digital donation space, I think we will move beyond this era of crowd-funding and move more into the space of crowd-campaigning. Engaged employees will design and launch their own giving campaigns in communities, small groups and the workplace. We must find a way to harness this energy and build workplace campaigns that give employees flexibility in giving and engagement.”

At the #GivingUnderTheInfluence Symposium on April 24, Marc Johnson and other experts will lead a discussion about how shifting employee expectations and the empowering digital culture are transforming the traditional workplace giving model into a more engaging experience inside and outside the workplace walls.
