Merck Receives the EPA's 2017 Green Chemistry Challenge Award
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Merck its Green Chemistry Challenge Award for innovative technologies and state-of-the-art approaches to sustainable processes for one of our investigational products. Merck and other Green Chemistry Challenge Award recipients were honored at a ceremony at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
What is “green chemistry?”
Green chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the generation of hazardous substances. The EPA Green Chemistry Challenge Awards Program recognizes individuals and organizations for successfully researching, developing and implementing outstanding green chemical technologies.
This isn’t the first time Merck has received a Green Chemistry Challenge Award. The company has received three others:
- 2010 Greener Reaction Conditions Award
- 2006 Greener Synthetic Pathways Award
- 2005 Greener Synthetic Pathways Award
