MetLife’s Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebrations Go Virtual
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which underscores the importance of protecting the health of our communities, MetLife employees celebrated Earth Day and Arbor Day in healthy, innovative, and meaningful ways — while maintaining social distancing.
In addition to sharing tips and resources via internal communications, MetLife shifted from previously-planned employee gatherings across the globe to a completely virtual celebration featuring five environmentally-focused employee webinars throughout the week of Earth Day and Arbor Day. Presentation topics included environmental education during a pandemic, the importance of protecting biodiversity, achieving carbon neutrality at MetLife, individual action for a zero-waste world, and the benefits of trees and how to celebrate Arbor Day virtually.
MetLife has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation since 2017, engaging its team members and investing in the communities it serves through tree planting projects. While engagement plans have shifted this spring due to the pandemic, the importance of inspiring MetLife’s employees to be good stewards of the environment remains constant. This fall, the Foundation and MetLife employees hope to resume community tree planting projects, and get their hands dirty together, in North Carolina, Illinois, Singapore, and Malaysia.
