MGM Resorts Foundation to Offer Architecture & Construction Workshop During 2015 Women’s Leadership Conference
Workshop, which will share insights on how women can succeed in a male-dominated industry, includes a special matchmaking session where attendees can learn about becoming a vendor
LAS VEGAS, June 10, 2015 /3BL Media/ - A new workshop offered during MGM Resorts Foundation’s 2015 Women’s Leadership Conference will provide tips and guidance to women who want to stand out in the field of architecture and construction. The first ever “Voice, Vision, and Value of Women in Architecture and Construction” Workshop will be held on July 14. The conference runs July 13-14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
According to the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), in 2014 the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 9,813,00 people working in the construction industry. Of these, 872,000 – 8.9 percent – were women.
The ninth annual conference, which was a sell out last year, will help women get to the next level when it comes to their careers. The “Voice, Vision, and Value of Women in Architecture and Construction” Workshop will feature prominent women leaders in the architecture and construction arenas, including:
- Gerri Harris, Executive Director, Diversity & Contracts for MGM Resorts International
- Cheryl Durst, Executive VP & CEO, International Interior Design Association (IIDA)
- Gloria Shealey, President & CEO, The Daniele Company & NAMC National President
- Deryl McKissack, Chairwoman & CEO, McKissack & MicKissack
- Meeta Shah, Design Project Manager, MGM Resorts International Design
- Traci Kinsey-Gibson, VP of Facilities, Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino
“It’s obvious that this is a male-dominated industry and that there are plenty of competent and talented women out there who have and can make an impact in the fields of architecture and construction,” said Gerri Harris, Executive Director, Diversity and Contracts, MGM Resorts. “Our workshop will focus on ways that women can be leaders in these fields and will give them the tools they need to break through and advance their careers.”
The workshop will feature:
- How To Measure Up in a Male Dominated Industry
- Blueprints and Best Practices on Successful Business/Career Management Strategies
- Engagement, Empowerment and Inspiration to Take Another Step
- Pathways to Career Alternatives (Development, Real Estate, Interior Design, Building Trades, Facilities Management)
After the workshop, there will be a special architecture and construction mini matchmaking session. Workshop attendees can meet with MGM Resorts representatives about becoming a vendor.
