Mission Critical Systems Expert Vali Sorell Joins Glumac, Part of Tetra Tech’s High Performance Buildings Group
Developing next generation data center design concepts for facilities around the world
Glumac, A Tetra Tech Company, part of Tetra Tech’s High Performance Buildings Group, today announced it has hired data center design veteran Vali Sorell, PE, as its newest Mission Critical Vice President, Mechanical Engineering and Design.
Prior to joining Glumac, Vali spent 12 years with Syska Hennessy Group as Principal and Chief HVAC Engineer for its Critical Facilities Group. Since 2016 he has helmed his own firm, Sorell Engineering, providing high-level consulting to mission critical clients around the world.
As part of Tetra Tech’s High Performance Buildings Group, Vali will lead Glumac’s mechanical mission critical team in developing next generation data center design concepts. He brings significant experience in resilient design and computational fluid dynamics modeling, as well as a reputation for successful delivery of alternative system designs that outperform industry best practices. This includes the extensive use of liquid cooling methods to ease burden on chiller plants and resilient, large-scale data center facilities capable of ride-through in extreme wind and hurricane events.
Vali joins Glumac as the firm is greatly expanding its mission critical engineering design services, having joined Tetra Tech’s High Performance Buildings Group in 2017. Tetra Tech’s High Performance Buildings Group includes 1,500 building design professionals focused on the design and delivery of energy efficient and sustainable facilities across market sectors, and includes a robust mission critical presence in the United States, Asia, the UK, and Australia.
"I have known of Glumac and the work done by their various offices for many years,” said Vali. “Though we may have been competitors in the past, I have always had a great deal of respect for the quality of their work. To now be part of their Mission Critical group, providing and expanding best-in-class critical facilities consulting and designs to a broad range of clients and markets is a great opportunity. I am so looking forward to this!"
Prior to joining Syska, Vali worked as a mechanical engineer for firms across the West Coast, designing and commissioning mechanical systems for some of Silicon Valley’s largest companies. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University in New York, New York.
