Zurich Insurance has set its goals for recruiting walkers and raising money for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk in September even higher this year, as Zurich celebrates 100 years of insuring America. This year the goal is to increase walkers by “hundreds” and raise $100,000. This is, of course, in the spirit of Zurich’s 100-year anniversary.

To help Zurich reach its goals, Ms. Heart Healthy stopped by Zurich's North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill., on May 29, 2012 to help Zurich employee and Heart Walk Co-Captain Nanci Nunez encourage the more than 3,000 Zurich employees in Schaumburg to sign up for the walk.

Historically, Zurich has had teams in Schaumburg, Ill., New York, and Owings Mills, MD. This year the commercial property and casualty insurer's goal is to expand participation into as many field offices as possible across North America. Last year the nation-wide teams raised $75,000 through the Heart Association walk.

The American Heart Association mission is to build healthier lives of children and adults, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Zurich provides support and funding to non-sectarian 501(c)(3) charities, like the American Heart Association, in these focus areas:

  1. health and welfare of children in need
  2. sustainable community development
  3. health, safety and disaster relief programs

The Heart Walk will be one of the "100 Ways," an initiative Zurich launched in celebration of its anniversary that challenges employees in the  U.S. and Canada to complete 100+ community service projects throughout 2012.
