The National Diversity Council Announces Juneteenth Launch of the Coalition for Racial Justice & Equity in Solidarity With Communities Affected by Systemic Racism
HOUSTON, June 16, 2020 /3BL Media/-The National Coalition for Racial Justice & Equity (NCRJE), an initiative of the National Diversity Council, will launch to the public on Juneteenth, a holiday that commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. A special announcement will be made by National Diversity Council CEO, Angeles Valenciano during a virtual meeting, “A Conversation with Dr. George Wright: The Significance of the Juneteenth Celebration in the United States,” on June 19, 2020 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. CST.
Dr. George Wright is a noted African-American scholar and seventh past president of Prairie View A&M University, a 129-year old historically Black university and the second oldest public institution of higher education in Texas. He has received numerous fellowships, grants and awards including the Jean Holloway Award for Teaching Excellence at the University of Texas at Austin and the Andrew W. Mellon Faculty Fellowship at Harvard University.
Valenciano will announce the NCRJE’s aim to advance racial equity by creating a space where business and community leaders can come together to brainstorm actionable ways to promote racial equity; leverage leadership commitment to racial justice in communities and dedicate long-term resources to tackle the magnitude and scope of systemic racism. The NCRJE will focus on the key areas of economic development, education, immigration, housing, the justice system and underserved youth.
“This historic moment where leaders across our nation are speaking up against racial injustice calls for the need to do more to serve our hurting communities - as a Latina and immigrant I add my voice to the request of accountability,” said Angeles Valenciano, Chief Executive Officer for the National Diversity Council. “The National Coalition for Racial Justice & Equity will provide a forum for the voices and perspectives of our networks to work towards racial equity and serve as a conduit for change in our communities and our nation.”
Dennis Kennedy, founder and chairman of the board of directors for the National Diversity Council shared similar sentiments.
“As a black son, and as a man of faith, I call on all our leaders and communities to stand together against injustice and for the value of human life after the senseless deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade and others,” said Dennis Kennedy. “The launch of the National Coalition for Racial Justice & Equity will allow our communities to dismantle systemic racism and tackle the complex issues and uncertainty our nation faces.”
